Hotspot Administration & Customization

1. Configuring a New or an Existing Hotspot

If you are configuring a new hotspot, you may already have the "Finish Installation" page open. If not, here's how you can get there. When you are ready, jump to Section 2. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk (*). It is in your interest to fill all fields.

- At the new hotspot, enter a well-known URL into your browser (eg. www.google.com).
- This will take you to the Less Networks "Login" page.
- Log in with the username "guestadmin" and password "foobar".
- This will take you to the "Welcome" page for your new hotspot.
- Click on the "Finish installation" link.
- This will take you to the "Finish Installation" page.



If you are configuring an existing hotspot, you may already have the "Customize Your Hotspot" page open. If not, here's how you can get there. When you are ready, go to the next section. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk (*). It is in your interest to fill all fields.

- From any computer connected to the internet, go to www.lessnetworks.com
- Click the "hotspots" tab.
- Select your hotspot from the list of hotspots.
- If it's not in the list of hotspots, it's probably been delisted.
- The last column tells you the user name of the administrator for the hotspot.
- Click on the name of the hotspot to take you to the Hotspot Welcome page.
- If you are not logged in, please login with the username of the administrator.
- If you need to change users, click on the "sign-out" link on the top right hand side of any page that requires login.
- Click on the "Manage My Hotspot" link on the left hand side of the Hotspot Welcome page.
- Click on the "Edit" button in the "Branding" section of the Hotspot Control Center.

2. Hotspot Information

Edit the following fields as follows. This information is displayed in the Less Networks Free WiFi Directory. Return here any time to change this information. This information is used by over 65,000 wireless users to find hotspots every day. To find most suitable free WiFi location, customers sort venues by address and other fields.


  • *Hotspot Name:
    • - This is initially blank.
    - Fill it in with a simple distinct phrase that uniquely identifies this hotspot.
    - For example, "The Book Shop - Central" or "Coffee People".
    - This is how you and your customers will find this hotspot again. Do not leave it blank.

  • *Address:
    • - This is initially blank.
    - Enter the address of your venue here.

  • *City:
    • - This is initially blank.
    - Enter City here.

  • State/Province:
    • - This is initially blank.
    - Enter State/Province here.

  • *Nearest Airport Code:
    • - This is initially blank.
    - Find and select the nearest airport from the drop-down list.

  • Postal Code:
    • - This is initially blank.
    - Enter Postal Code here.

  • *Country:
    • - This is initially blank.
    - Find and select Country from the drop-down list.

  • Phone:
    • - This is initially blank.
    - Enter Phone number here.

    3. Hotspot Picture, Description and Website

    Customize the image, description, and website seen by all wireless users accessing the Internet from your location.


  • Picture:
    • - There is a default image.
    - Show your brand instead by replacing the default image with your custom image.
    - Image must be less than 64K bytes. Recommended pixels: 400 wide x 300 high.
    - Click on the "Choose File" button to upload an image from your local hard drive or network.

  • Description:
    • - There is a default message.
    - Customize by replacing the default message with your custom message.
    - Message must be 50 words or less and can include hypertext markup (links, fonts, colors, etc)

  • *Website:
    • - The default website is that of Less Networks.
    - Enter the website where you wish to automatically redirect your wireless users after they log in and click "Continue."
    - Drive traffic to your website, menu, catalog, etc.
    - The picture (above) is also clickable and is linked to this website.

    4. Hotspot Provider and Administrator

    Do this now or risk losing control of your hotspot and getting locked out of it.

  • *Name of Admin:
    • - Enter the Less Networks username that will be used to administer this hotspot.
    - If you don't have a registered Less Networks username, go to www.lessnetworks.com, then click "Sign Up Free".
    - Once you change the admin and save your changes below, you will have to re-login as the admin to manage this hotspot.

  • *Password:
    • - Only fill this if you change the Name of Admin above.
    - Enter the password of the above user name.
    - If you don't know the password and never knew the password, let the user to whom the user name belongs do this part.
    - If you don't remember the password, use the "Forgot your password?" link on the Login page.

  • Provider Name:
    • - Default value is Less Networks.
    - If you are unsure, do not choose.
    - If you plan on creating and managing more than one hotspot, you can Become a Provider and choose yourself.
    - If you already have a provider network, select the provider from the drop-down list.

    5. Save or Discard Changes

    Click "Update" when you are done to save changes, or "Cancel" to discard changes.
